Sony Group announced that its net profit for the first quarter increased, thanks to strong performance in its gaming business. The company also raised its annual profit outlook, partly because the impact of US tariffs is relatively small. The Japanese electronics and entertainment company said on Thursday that net profit in the three months ending in June rose 23% from the same period last year to 259.03 billion yen, equivalent to 1.76 billion dollars. Revenue for the first quarter increased by 2.2% to 2.622 trillion yen. Sony expects that US tariffs starting in April will drag down its operating profit by 70 billion yen for the fiscal year, which is lower than the previous estimate of 100 billion yen. The company now forecasts a 9.1% decrease in net profit for the full fiscal year to 970 billion yen, better than the previous expectation of 930 billion yen. It continues to expect revenue to decrease by 2.8% to 11.7 trillion yen for the year.
