Sudanese armed forces shoot down a plane carrying foreign mercenaries, killing at least 40 people.
The Sudanese national television reported on the evening of August 6th local time that the Sudanese armed forces destroyed a United Arab Emirates plane carrying foreign mercenaries in the capital of South Darfur state, Nyala, in western Sudan, resulting in at least 40 deaths. The report stated that the plane took off from an air base in the Persian Gulf, carrying tens of foreign mercenaries and some weapons and equipment to support the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces. The plane was destroyed by the Sudanese Air Force after landing at the Nyala airport controlled by the Rapid Support Forces. The report did not disclose specific details such as the exact time of the plane being shot down. The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces and the UAE government have not yet responded to this incident.
