Former Google X (renamed to X after 2015) Chief Business Officer Mo Gawdat warned that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace most knowledge workers in the next ten years, including software engineers, company CEOs, and even podcast hosts. Many people still underestimate the speed of this transformation. Using his new startup company Emma.love as an example, Gawdat explained that the company specializes in developing emotion and relationship-focused AI and is run by only three people, whereas in the past it would have required 350 developers. He predicts a "short dark age" starting around 2027, characterized by massive unemployment, social unrest, and an economic structure that is unable to adapt. "Unless you are in the top 0.1% of the pyramid, you are part of the working class and the middle class will no longer exist." However, he also believes that a bright future filled with freedom, creativity, and human connections is possible.
