Malaysia agrees to increase the purchase of American technology and liquefied natural gas.
On Monday, the Malaysian Minister of Trade announced that Malaysia will invest up to $150 billion in equipment from American multinational companies over the next five years for its semiconductor, aerospace, and data center sectors as part of a tariff reduction agreement with Washington. Last week, the United States announced that it would impose a 19% tariff on Malaysia starting from August 8, lower than the 25% tariff threatened last month. Malaysian Minister of Trade Zafrul stated that Malaysia's national oil company will purchase $3.4 billion worth of liquefied natural gas annually, and Malaysia will commit to $70 billion of cross-border investment in the United States over the next five years to address the trade imbalance between the two countries.
