Chilean President Boric said on the 3rd that a mining accident in the central O'Higgins region of the country a few days ago resulted in 6 deaths, with all 5 trapped miners perishing. Chile began a national mourning period of three days from the 3rd to mourn the victims of the accident. On July 31st local time, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake near the El Teniente copper mine in the city of Rancagua in the O'Higgins region caused the mine to collapse, resulting in 1 death and 9 injuries, with 5 miners trapped. After the mining accident, the Chilean government immediately launched rescue efforts. On the 3rd, rescue workers discovered the body of the last trapped miner. Mining is one of Chile's main industries. The El Teniente copper mine is located about 130 kilometers south of the Chilean capital, Santiago, with a total underground tunnel length of over 4,500 kilometers, making it the world's largest underground copper mine.
