On Friday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics released data showing near stagnation in US job growth in July, which displeased President Trump. Just hours after the nonfarm payroll report was released, Trump announced the dismissal of the bureau's director. In a post on Truth Social, he also aimed criticism at Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, accusing Labor Statistics Director Erica McEntarfer of being a political appointee who manipulated employment data. "I just learned that our 'employment data' is compiled by Dr. Erica McEntarfer, the Labor Statistics Bureau director appointed by Biden. She falsified employment data before the election in an attempt to help Harris win," Trump wrote. "We need accurate employment data. I have ordered the team to immediately dismiss this Biden political appointee and appoint someone more capable." Several US news outlets have confirmed that McEntarfer has been fired.
