OpenAI will launch an artificial intelligence data center in Norway.
OpenAI announced on Thursday that they will launch an artificial intelligence data center named "Stargate" in Norway, marking the company's first such project in Europe. The UK company Nscale is responsible for the design and construction of the data center, which is part of a 50-50 joint venture with Norwegian energy infrastructure company Aker. OpenAI will act as the "offtaker" for the project, essentially purchasing compute power from the data center. According to a press release, the data center plans to deploy 100,000 Nvidia graphics processors by the end of 2026, and aims to significantly expand in the coming years. The facility will operate entirely on renewable energy, with a compute power of 230 megawatts, making it one of the largest data centers in Europe.
