A food and beverage establishment in Fujian was found to be illegally using borax.

On July 29th, the State Administration for Market Regulation reported 5 typical cases of food violations, including the illegal use of borax in a dining establishment in Shishi, Fujian Province: In May 2025, the Market Regulation Bureau of Shishi City in Fujian Province conducted food safety inspections on the dumpling filling and dumplings at Wu Gang Restaurant in the city. The test results showed that borax was detected in the above-mentioned foods. Upon investigation, it was found that the parties involved illegally used the non-food substance borax in the dumpling filling and dumplings. On May 16th, the Market Regulation Bureau of Shishi City filed a case against the restaurant and transferred the suspected criminal case to the public security organs for criminal responsibility.
