Microsoft is reportedly engaging in in-depth negotiations with OpenAI in order to obtain their technology for the long term. An agreement could be reached within several weeks.
Microsoft is currently in deep negotiations with OpenAI to reach an agreement that will allow them to continue accessing key OpenAI technology. According to two sources familiar with the matter, the two companies have discussed new terms that would allow Microsoft to use OpenAI's latest models and related technologies, even if OpenAI believes it has achieved the goal of developing more powerful artificial intelligence, known as "general artificial intelligence." Under the existing contract, reaching AGI level is seen as a key milestone for OpenAI, at which point Microsoft would lose some rights to their technology. Negotiators are meeting regularly, and the agreement could be finalized within weeks. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella discussed the matter earlier this month at the Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
