The first global wheat rust resistance gene map has been successfully drawn.
Recently, the plant immune research team of Northwest A&F University, in collaboration with the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units, has made a major breakthrough in solving the worldwide problem of continuous variation of wheat stem rust pathogen. They successfully mapped the first global panorama of wheat resistant stem rust genes, constructed a core resource library of comprehensive sources of resistance to wheat stem rust, and solved the difficult problem of the layout of disease-resistant genes that has puzzled the academic community for a hundred years. This research, which provides "genetic navigation" for wheat breeding, marks a leading breakthrough in China's basic research on wheat disease control.
