Ma Zhengqiu, the chairman of the Chinese Seafarers' Construction Union under the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, plans to grow the membership of truck driver to over 600,000 this year.
Ma Zhengqiu, Vice Chairman of the China Seafarers Construction Union of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, stated that in 2023, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions will launch a three-year action plan to promote the work of labor unions for workers in new forms of employment, and it will be deployed as a key focus nationwide. In early 2024, the General Office of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions issued a notice on further promoting the joining and service work of truck drivers, providing specific guidance for the work of truck driver unions. Currently, there are 12,000 city and county-level new business format union federations established nationwide, with the leading platform companies in the road freight industry achieving basic union coverage at headquarters and provincial branch levels. "Compared to the large number of drivers nationwide, the task of organizing and recruiting truck drivers into unions is still very challenging and difficult. We will persistently promote this work," Ma Zhengqiu said. In terms of union establishment, the plan is to achieve full coverage of branch unions at the municipal level or above for leading platform companies by the end of September this year; in terms of recruitment, the plan is to recruit over 600,000 new truck driver members this year.
