Shanghai promotes further upgrade of cross-regional medical services, offers direct settlement for 10 types of outpatient chronic diseases.

According to the Shanghai Medical Insurance Center, since 2017, the city has been continuously promoting the direct settlement of cross-provincial medical expenses, achieving direct settlement of regular outpatient, inpatient expenses, outpatient slow disease special treatment and pharmacy purchases across provinces, as well as online payment for internet hospitals for out-of-town patients. Up to now, there are 1045 designated medical institutions and 2847 designated retail pharmacies in the city that have opened cross-provincial direct settlement services, providing more choices for the public's medical treatment.
