Floods caused by heavy rain occurred in the upper reaches of the Chao Bai River and Yongding River in the Haihe River Basin. The water resources department is making every effort to prevent and respond to the floods.
Since July 23, there has been continuous rainfall in the Chaobai River and the upper reaches of the Yongding River in the Haihe River Basin. Due to the impact of the rainfall, the Yongding River tributaries Yinhma River and Nanyang River, as well as the Chaobai River tributaries Baihe River and Chaohui River, have experienced the largest floods on record. At 3:00 on the 27th, the Chaobai River mainstream at Miyun Reservoir experienced the largest inflow flood since the reservoir was built in 1959, with a maximum inflow flow of 6550 cubic meters per second. Beijing Water Authority has activated a Level III flood control and drainage emergency response, mobilizing a total of 8095 inspection personnel, expanding the evacuation of people affected by debris flows based on the principle of "as much as possible, evacuate as necessary", and relocating more than 4700 people at risk. Taking advantage of the favorable intermittent period of heavy rainfall, starting at 15:00 on the 27th, the discharge flow from the Miyun Reservoir was gradually increased to leave enough flood control storage capacity for possible future floods. The Shanxi Provincial Department of Water Resources has initiated a Level III flood defense response in Datong City, sending a working group to Datong to guide and supervise the prevention and response work for flash floods and floods, and organizing the orderly relocation of more than 300 people at risk.
