According to local media reports, Greece was hit by a severe heatwave on the 26th, leading to widespread wildfires across the country and causing a strain on firefighting efforts. It is said that this was the most severe day of wildfires in Greece this week. On the 26th, intense wildfires broke out in the southern islands of Greece, the Peloponnese region, and the eastern Attica region north of the capital, Athens. Among them, the wildfire in the eastern Attica region, specifically in the town of Drossopigi, was the most severe, spreading to residential areas at one point. Strong gusts of wind worsened the firefighting difficulty, with the wildfire advancing towards the central square of Kreonari, southeast of Drossopigi, causing multiple houses to catch fire and destroying cars.
