SK Hynix expects sales of high-end artificial intelligence chips to double.
South Korea's SK Hynix announced on Thursday that its quarterly profit hit a record high, driven by strong demand for advanced chips used in artificial intelligence chipsets, as well as some customers stockpiling semiconductors ahead of potential tariffs in the United States. In a statement, SK Hynix said, "SK Hynix expects that competition among major tech companies in strengthening artificial intelligence model inference is intensifying, leading to higher demand for high-performance and large-capacity memory products." The supplier to Nvidia stated that it expects sales of high-bandwidth memory chips to double from 2024. Due to its leading position in the HBM chip market, SK Hynix surpassed Samsung Electronics in the first quarter to become the world's largest memory chip manufacturer. HBM chips are a crucial component in designing artificial intelligence chipsets for companies like Nvidia, helping process large amounts of data and train AI models. SK Hynix reported an operating profit of 9.2 trillion Korean won for the April-June period, a 69% increase from the same period last year.
