Trump once considered splitting up Nvidia and traded compliments with Huang Renxun at the AI Summit.
President Trump said at an artificial intelligence summit in Washington on Wednesday that he had considered breaking up Nvidia to increase competition in the AI chip industry, but later found "it wasn't easy." Trump said, "Before I knew the facts, I said, 'Look, we're going to break this guy up.'" Trump said his aides told him it was "very difficult" to do so, and the company had huge advantages over all its competitors that would take years to overcome. Trump said, "I thought maybe we could break them up a little bit, add a little competition, and then I found out it wasn't easy." Trump then praised Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who was also present at the event. Earlier in the day, Huang praised Trump's approach to artificial intelligence, saying, "The unique advantage of the United States is something that no other country can have, and that is President Trump."
