On July 22nd, the construction of the iconic major water conservancy project, the Guangdong Huangmaoxia Reservoir Project, started. As an important part of flood control in the Beijiang River in Guangdong's water network, the completion of the Huangmaoxia Reservoir Project will greatly enhance the flood control capacity of the middle and lower reaches of the Lianjiang River, reduce the flood control pressure on cities like Guangzhou and Foshan, and effectively strengthen the flood control resilience of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Huangmaoxia Reservoir Project is located 6 kilometers downstream of Dayawan Town in Yingde, Qingyuan. The project mainly consists of spillway gates, power plant buildings, ship locks, fish ladders, and connecting dams on both sides. The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 5.62 billion cubic meters, with a flood control capacity of 5.47 billion cubic meters, a normal water level of 45 meters, and an estimated total investment of 13.5 billion yuan.
