According to a report from Taiwan's EBC News on July 11, the American think tank "Defense Priorities" released a new report on the 9th, calling for Washington to withdraw the approximately 500 US military trainers currently stationed in Taiwan. The report suggests that this move would help avoid provoking the mainland of China and is in line with the long-standing US policy of not permanently stationing troops in Taiwan. This has sparked widespread attention and debate in various circles. The report, titled "Aligning Global Military Posture with US Interests," pointed out that as the draft of the "2025 National Defense Strategy" is set to be released on August 31, the US should make significant strategic adjustments. The report recommends that the US gradually withdraw military forces from the first island chain and instead strengthen defensive deployments in the second island chain to reduce the risk of direct conflict with mainland China. The report specifically emphasized that the presence of US military trainers in Taiwan is contradictory to the US's past commitment of not permanently stationing troops in Taiwan, stating that if training is necessary, it can be conducted in the US mainland. The report also criticized Taiwan for not investing enough in its own defense spending, while the US is "too willing to bear the additional burden."
