The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' office in Hong Kong responds to the US's unreasonable sanctions and warns the US to give up their delusions.
The spokesperson of the Hong Kong office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the irrational interference in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong affairs by the United States, as the White House announced the extension of the so-called "national emergency" declared in response to the situation in Hong Kong.
The spokesperson emphasized that the legislation to safeguard national security in Hong Kong is legitimate and necessary, in line with international practices. Since the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, the society has become more stable and peaceful, the business environment has improved, and investors from various countries have flocked to Hong Kong, which is evident to the international community. Hong Kong is ranked as the freest economy in the world, a global financial center in the top three, a top competitor in the world, leading in terms of talent competitiveness, ranking in the top ten globally; foreign direct investment inflows rank third globally, and IPO fundraising this year ranks first in the world; air cargo volume has continuously maintained its position as the global leader. Hong Kong has truly become a land of investment and entrepreneurship.
The spokesperson pointed out that the United States, by distorting the facts, disregarding fairness and law, repeatedly linking Hong Kong to its "national emergency", and unreasonably imposing unilateral sanctions on Hong Kong based on domestic laws, is weaponizing economic and trade tools, engaging in political manipulation of Hong Kong affairs, acting against the historical trend, and fully exposing its hypocritical and absurd double standards and pirate logic.
The spokesperson reiterated that external interference cannot shake the strong determination of the Central and Hong Kong SAR Governments to safeguard national security, cannot obstruct Hong Kong's steady progress towards prosperity, and cannot reverse the historical trend of the successful implementation of "one country, two systems." We urge the US to recognize the overall situation, face reality, abandon delusions, abide by international law and basic principles of international relations, genuinely respect Chinese sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, and immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong affairs through political manipulation.
