The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced that from June 29 to July 11, 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency was invited by China to conduct a comprehensive regulatory assessment in the field of nuclear and radiation safety supervision. The IAEA highly praised China's level and effectiveness of nuclear and radiation safety supervision, identifying multiple good practices and achievements that can be promoted internationally. The head of the assessment team, Foey, Chief Executive and Chief Inspector of the UK Nuclear Safety Regulator Office, stated: "With the rapid development of the nuclear power industry in China, there is a need to significantly expand the size of the regulatory personnel in the coming years. In addition, China's practice of using innovative technologies to enhance regulatory efficiency is worth learning from by other countries." The assessment team also put forward many constructive suggestions and hopes, and will continue to assist the Chinese government in further improving the level of nuclear and radiation safety supervision, accelerating the establishment of a modern nuclear safety supervision system, and achieving a virtuous interaction between high-level nuclear safety and high-quality development of the nuclear industry.
