The 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 11, 2025, the 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, and Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended and spoke. Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the East Asia Summit, and all parties should take this opportunity to enhance understanding and trust, maintain peace and stability, and promote development and prosperity. China proposes three points: first, returning to dialogue. The original intention of the summit was to conduct constructive dialogue and enhance strategic mutual trust. However, in recent years, some countries outside the region have deviated from the track, often using the summit platform to play up differences, attack other countries, and interfere in internal affairs. It is hoped that all parties can respect each other, communicate in good faith, and focus on enhancing understanding and cooperation. China supports the issuance of a commemorative declaration this year on the 20th anniversary of the summit, to chart the course for the future development of the summit. Secondly, returning to development. The focus should be on development as the common denominator, striving to improve the lives of the people in the East Asia region through practical cooperation. Unilateralism and protectionism are short-sighted and dangerous, the best choice for all parties is to expand cooperation and share the benefits of development. China is willing to work with all parties to implement the East Asia Summit Action Plan and stimulate regional growth vitality. Thirdly, returning to openness. The beneficial experience of East Asian cooperation is the practice of open regionalism. We support the ASEAN-led regional cooperative framework, firmly defend the multilateral trading system, create a high-level regional free trade network, and promote regional integration. We oppose the introduction of Cold War mentality and hegemonic confrontations into the region, and oppose the formation of closed and exclusive "small circles." Wang Yi emphasized that the root cause of the tense situation in the Taiwan Strait is the increasingly rampant separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" and the tolerance and support of external forces. Some people claim to want to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait, but if they truly care about peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, they must resolutely stop the growth of "Taiwan independence" forces. Some people suggest not changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and that Taiwan and the mainland both belong to one China, which is the fundamental reality in the Taiwan Strait. Safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity is the sacred mission of every country. It is hoped that all countries will continue to resolutely adhere to the One China principle, oppose any form of "Taiwan independence," and support the cause of China's reunification. Wang Yi also clarified China's firm stance on the South China Sea issue. On the same day, Wang Yi also attended the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers' Meeting and continued to meet with foreign ministers from relevant countries.
