OpenAI is accusing a non-profit organization in California of having connections with Musk and violating lobbying regulations.
According to Politico, OpenAI has requested the California political financial regulatory agency to investigate a nonprofit organization challenging its multi-billion dollar commercial plans, accusing it of violating state lobbying laws, and once again raising questions about the organization's relationship with Musk. The complaint submitted to the California Fair Political Practices Commission accuses the "AI Non-Profit Integrity Alliance" of potentially fabricating the identity of its leaders and failing to report lobbying expenses related to a now weakened state bill that could prevent the manufacturer of ChatGPT from converting into a for-profit entity. This is the latest escalation in OpenAI's pressure on the organization. Meanwhile, OpenAI is also in a legal battle with Musk. Musk, who was a commercial partner with OpenAI, opposes the company's restructuring plan for fundraising, believing it deviates from its original non-profit mission of serving the public interest. CANI spokesperson Becky Warren stated in an email that her organization had not yet received the complaint on Thursday.
