Another opposition party mayor in Turkey has been detained.
Local police conducted a sudden raid on the ile municipality in Istanbul, Turkey early in the morning, and the Republican People's Party mayor, Eczur Kabaday, along with 5 others, were detained. The operation was led by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Terrorism and Organized Crime Department, with charges including "establishing an organization to commit crimes", "malfeasance extortion", "bribery", and "collusion in bidding". Currently, the suspects are under investigation. This is another round of crackdown by the Turkish police against opposition politicians in recent times.
