US Treasury Secretary Bensen said on Tuesday that so far this year, the US has collected about $100 billion in tariff revenue, and with President Trump's trade actions accelerating the imposition of tariffs, this figure could grow to $300 billion by the end of 2025. Bensen said during a White House cabinet meeting that Trump's new tariffs started to take effect in the second quarter, when Trump imposed nearly across-the-board 10% tariffs on imported goods and raised tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars. Bensen said, "Therefore, it can be expected that by the end of this year, this figure will far exceed $300 billion." A spokesperson for the US Treasury Department said the $300 billion target refers to December 31, 2025, and not the end of the government fiscal year on September 30. If tariff collections reach $300 billion this year, it means that future collections in the coming months will grow exponentially, and tariffs will rise significantly and widely from their current levels. Bensen added that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that total tariff revenue over 10 years will reach approximately $28 trillion, "we believe this could be conservative."
