Sichuan Danba Mudslide, Four People Missing
Since July 2nd, the entire Danba County has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, with the maximum hourly rainfall reaching 23.2 millimeters, triggering several mountain torrents and debris flow disasters. 12 townships have been affected to varying degrees, with a total of 645 households and 1719 people evacuated and relocated.
Around 5:50 PM on July 4th, a mountain torrent and debris flow disaster broke out in Shenzugou, Badizhen, Danba County, with over 200,000 cubic meters of solid materials rushing out. The disaster has caused varying degrees of damage to Shenzu Village I and Shenzu Village II, with 215 households and 491 people from the two villages and the surrounding areas evacuated and relocated through centralized placement and staying with relatives and friends. About 15 buildings in Shenzu Village I and Shenzu Village II were damaged.
Before the disaster occurred, when the town and village levels were organizing households for evacuation and disaster prevention, it was discovered that all six members of the Lan family in Shenzu Village I were not home. During the headcount at the evacuation point, no one from this household was present, and communication was interrupted making contact impossible. It was later found out that four members of the family went to the mountains to graze cattle on that day, and the other two were working outside the village.
Currently, Danba County is mobilizing rescue forces to actively search for the missing individuals through methods such as drone signal coverage and trekking in the mountains. So far, there have been no traces of the four missing individuals, and the search operation is still ongoing.
