Recently, Meituan launched the "2025 Summer Cooling Action" and announced that starting from July 1st, they will provide "heatstroke prevention" for over 3 million delivery riders in batches across the country. At the same time, Meituan will also distribute heat care funds to riders during high temperature periods along with their orders. Meituan's relevant departments explained that the "heatstroke prevention" is fully funded by the Meituan platform, and this insurance is another type of insurance provided by Meituan for riders, following "occupational injury protection for new forms of employment" and commercial accident insurance. The head of Meituan's rider protection team stated that the special investment for rider protection this summer is expected to reach 1.6 billion yuan, and in the event of extreme weather conditions, there will be no limit to the resources allocated for protection. The head of Meituan's relevant department stated that this year Meituan will expand the "work injury insurance" for riders to 17 provincial-level administrative regions, fully funded by Meituan to provide protection for riders. Additionally, pension insurance subsidies will also be included in the pilot program and gradually expanded.
