The US Air Force suspends SpaceX's rocket project at the Pacific Atoll.
On July 4th local time, the US Air Force has suspended SpaceX's plan to test a hypersonic rocket cargo delivery from a Pacific atoll. A spokesperson for the US Air Force stated that they are exploring other locations for the project. The project will test a reusable rocket landing vehicle that can deliver up to 100 tons of cargo to any location on Earth in approximately 90 minutes. Previously, biologists and experts have expressed concerns that the project will endanger many seabirds nesting in the Johnston Atoll Wildlife Refuge. The US Air Force had stated that they would conduct an environmental assessment of the project, but the release of the draft assessment was delayed due to opposition from environmental organizations.
