The reporter learned from the Haikou Customs that since the implementation of the new policy on tax-free shopping for outlying islands in Hainan on July 1, 2020, the customs have supervised a total of 195.82 billion yuan in tax-free shopping for outlying islands, with 28.59 million people shopping and 240 million items purchased, showing an increase of 315.3%, 123.3%, and 288.8% respectively compared to the same period in the five years before the new policy was implemented. According to the announcement on tax-free shopping for outlying island travelers in Hainan released on June 29, 2020, the annual tax-free shopping quota for outlying island travelers has been increased from 30,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan per person starting from July 1, 2020. The tax-free limit per item has been lifted, and the types of tax-free goods have been expanded to include seven categories such as electronic consumer products favored by consumers. The significant adjustment of the tax-free policy for outlying islands in Hainan has effectively promoted the development of the tax-free industry for outlying islands in Hainan. With the substantial increase in the tax-free quota, a more diverse range of goods, and the continuous increase in pick-up methods, the shopping experience and satisfaction of travelers have continued to improve.
