Australian Defense Industry Minister Conroy confirmed on the 3rd that Australia has purchased AIM-120C-8 and AIM-120D-3 supersonic missiles developed by American defense companies, Raytheon Technology. These missiles will be equipped on F/A-18 and F-35 fighter jets, as well as a new army brigade capable of targeting air targets up to 500 kilometers away. Australian Prime Minister Albanese had previously rejected the US request to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP, but Australia stated that the purchase of $1.3 billion worth of supersonic missiles from the US demonstrates its commitment to defense spending. Albanese promised last year to spend $47 billion on missiles purchased from Europe and the United States, with approximately $13.8 billion being used to establish guided weapons and explosives military industries in Australia.
