According to a report from Bloomberg cited by Global Times on the 3rd, the Trump administration has cancelled some export permit requirements for chip design software to China. Additionally, according to South China Morning Post citing statements from Siemens, Cadence Design Systems, and Synopsys, the US government has lifted export controls on some chip design software to China this Thursday. The three leading global electronic design automation software developers all stated that in the future, their related products exported to China will not require special approval. A study released by Morgan Stanley in May showed that the three companies collectively held approximately 82% of the market share in China's EDA software market last year. EDA tools are the core software used by chip manufacturers in semiconductor design for a wide range of applications including smartphones, computers, and automobiles.
