Consumer confidence in the United States unexpectedly dropped in June, driven by concerns over the economy, labor market, and personal financial prospects arising from trade policies. Data released on Tuesday by the World Economic Forum showed the consumer confidence index fell by 5.4 points to 93, lower than expectations of all surveyed economists. The index reflecting consumers' expectations for the next six months dropped by 4.6 points to 69, while the current conditions index fell by 6.4 points to 129.1. This drop in confidence nearly erased nearly half of the rebound seen in the previous month, highlighting consumers' ongoing anxiety about the potential impact of increasing import tariffs on the economy. Despite moderate inflation over the past three months, some consumers have become more cautious in their spending.
