Cui Dongshu: China's imported cars decreased by 33% year-on-year from January to May. The pressure on imported car shrinkage is still significant.

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Cui Dongshu stated that from January to May 2025, the import of cars decreased by 33% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 180,000 cars imported, making it a significant decline rarely seen in recent years. In May, there were 47,000 imported cars, a 25% decrease compared to the same period last year, but an increase of 9% compared to April. After reaching a peak of 1.43 million imported cars in 2014, the import growth rate slightly stabilized in 2016-2017, but has been continuously declining since 2018. The import volume in 2024 continued to sharply decrease, with only 700,000 cars imported for the whole year, a 12% decrease compared to the previous year. Currently, there is still significant pressure on the continuous contraction of imported cars.
