On June 23, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Ford Motor Company, headquartered in Michigan, is recalling 197,432 2021-2025 models of the "Mustang Mach E" mid-size electric SUVs due to a potential door lock malfunction that could trap rear seat passengers. The U.S. government agency stated that the electronic door locks of these vehicles may remain locked after the driver or front seat passenger exits and closes the door, potentially trapping children or other passengers who are unable to unlock the door from inside the vehicle. Ford dealers will address this issue by updating the vehicle's software, with a solution expected to be available by the end of September. The Mustang Mach E is Ford's first all-electric SUV.
