Reporters learned from the Yellow River Water Affairs Bureau in Sanmenxia City that in order to meet the requirements for drought resistance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and reservoir operation in the middle reaches for flood control, the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources will start the implementation of water diversion and sediment regulation on the Yellow River before the flood season in 2025. Through coordinated operation of reservoirs such as Wanjiazhai, Sanmenxia, and Xiaolangdi, the water-sediment relationship will be scientifically controlled. It is estimated that this water diversion and sediment regulation will last for about 17 days. On June 23, Xiaolangdi Reservoir will discharge 2600 cubic meters per second. Sanmenxia Reservoir will start controlled discharge around 11 am on July 3. Relevant departments remind the public that the duration of this water diversion and sediment regulation is long, the flow of the Yellow River is large, and the water situation is complex. To ensure flood safety and the safety of people's lives and property, the public is advised to stay away from the Yellow River and not risk crossing the water during the water diversion and sediment regulation period.
