"Last year, Huawei's R&D expenditure exceeded 170 billion, exceeding the target of allocating more than 10% of revenue for R&D. This year, in the context of competition between China and the United States, Huawei will invest even more in R&D," said Zhang Ping'an, Executive Director and CEO of Huawei Cloud Computing, at the Huawei Developer Conference held on June 21. Zhang Ping'an pointed out that Huawei is increasing its investment in fundamental IT technologies in three areas: including various chips such as Ascend AI chips, Kunpeng CPU chips, mobile terminal system-level chips Kirin chips, and AI network chips; operating systems for various platforms such as servers and mobile devices; and basic software like databases. "The development of HarmonyOS was also a result of not being allowed to use other systems," he said. Zhang Ping'an further pointed out that as international relations develop in the future, the global technology ecosystem will see two camps emerging, with the US and China at the center, while neutral markets in Europe, the Middle East, and elsewhere will require Huawei to compete. "Our work is not only to establish ourselves in China in the next ten years, but also to establish ourselves globally. If we continue to work on our foundation in the future, Huawei's partners and excellent products from China will be utilized globally," he said.
