The three-day 2025 World Mobile Communications Conference was held in Shanghai from the 18th to the 20th, during which the "Mobile Net Zero Emissions" report was released. The report shows that Chinese mobile operators achieved a year-on-year decrease in operational carbon emissions for the first time in 2024. The report indicates that since 2019, due to a surge in user demand, the carbon emissions of mobile operators have been continuously increasing, with a cumulative growth of 7% between 2019 and 2023, and energy consumption has increased by 30%. In recent years, thanks to improved energy efficiency and an increased proportion of renewable energy use, despite the nearly four-fold growth in mobile data traffic in China in 2024 compared to 2019, operational carbon emissions have decreased year-on-year.
