A government official said that Spain will oppose NATO's plan to increase member countries' defense spending target to 5% of GDP. The official stated that the Spanish government is preparing a formal response to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's proposal, believing that there is no reason to further increase the target from the current 2%. The official added that unless Stoltenberg decides to change his tune, Spain will work to block his plan at the summit scheduled to be held in The Hague next week.
