Japanese opposition party leader: Shigeru Ishiba said that the United States is very concerned about the trade deficit in automobiles.
The leader of Japan's Constitutional Democratic Party, Yoshihiko Noda, spoke to the media after meeting with Prime Minister Shozo Ishiba. Ishiba, Noda, and other opposition party leaders discussed the latest Japan-US trade negotiations. Ishiba had just participated in the G7 Summit in Canada, where he was unable to reach a trade agreement with US President Trump. Noda quoted Ishiba as saying it is unclear what decision the US will make by the July 9 deadline, at which point the so-called retaliatory tariffs will revert to their original high levels. In addition, Ishiba also mentioned that US Treasury Secretary Benson and Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato have been in communication regarding foreign exchange issues.
