State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television governs the chaos of online TV charging, and reminders should be sent out five days before automatic charges for online TV.
Recently, the State Administration of Radio and Television implemented special regulatory measures for automatic renewal services on Internet TV. This governance focuses on the pain points such as "no reminder before deduction", "complex cancellation process", "unsmooth complaint channels" that users have reported, and aims to optimize the consumer experience by standardizing service rules. In the past, some platforms hid the automatic renewal option in lengthy service agreements, resulting in consumers being continuously charged without their knowledge. This governance work explicitly requires operators to return the choice to the users. According to the regulations, Internet TV integrated institutions must strictly follow the principle of "user's active choice" when providing automatic renewal services, and are prohibited from inducing users to subscribe through hidden clauses or by bundling other services. They must use the "automatic renewal" option sparingly and must obtain clear consent through a second confirmation when users subscribe to audio-visual products with automatic renewal services for the first time before entering the payment stage. In response to the issues of "no reminder before deduction" and "complex cancellation process" for automatic renewal, the new regulations require Internet TV integrated control platforms to send deduction reminders to users through various channels such as SMS, App push notifications, and service bulletins five days before automatic renewal, and the reminder content must include the product name, amount to be deducted, etc.
