The spokesperson of the National Bureau of Statistics and the director of the Department of National Economic Comprehensive Statistics, Fu Linghui, stated at a press conference of the State Council Information Office that the overall economic operation in May was stable, with some indicators continuing to improve. Emerging new forces are growing stronger, and the trend of high-quality development is continuing, demonstrating the strong resilience and vitality of China's economy. In May, influenced by factors such as the policy of replacing old consumer goods with new ones, market sales growth accelerated. The total retail sales of social consumer goods in May increased by 6.4% year-on-year, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from the previous month. From January to May, the growth of service retail sales was 5.2%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from January to April. The accelerated growth in consumption, especially the expansion of service consumption, is also driving the relevant service industries. In May, the production index of wholesale and retail trade, accommodation, and catering industries all accelerated compared to the previous month. At the same time, the development of new driving forces such as high-end manufacturing, digital economy, and new energy industries continues to grow, effectively promoting industrial transformation and the stable operation of the economy.
