U.S. President Trump expressed his support for the collaboration between American steel companies and Japanese steelmakers, attributing this deal to his push for tariff policies. He stated that this move will ensure that this iconic American company continues to be rooted in the homeland. Although Trump did not explicitly support the proposed $14.1 billion acquisition deal by the Japanese steelmaker, after his statement, the stock price of the American steel company surged 26%, reflecting the market's optimistic outlook on the deal. "I am proud to announce that, after careful consideration and negotiation, American steel will remain in the U.S., with its headquarters still in the great city of Pittsburgh," Trump stated on Truth Social on Friday. "My tariff policy will ensure that American steel will always be American-made." Trump stated that this collaboration will create at least 70,000 jobs and bring $14 billion in additional investment to the U.S. economy, with most of it expected to be realized within the next 14 months. He also announced that he will attend a related event in Pittsburgh on May 30th. The White House confirmed that Trump has received the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States' recommendation for the review of this acquisition deal.
