Sudanese armed conflict intensifies food crisis, with food prices rising by 124% year-on-year.
On May 20th, local time, the United Nations World Food Programme released a report on the situation in Sudan, stating that in April of this year, the overall food prices in Sudan increased by 124% compared to the same period last year, and increased by 12% compared to the previous month. Among them, the price of wheat increased by 121% year-on-year and 11% month-on-month; the price of peanuts increased by 89% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month; the price of goats increased by 235% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month. The report also pointed out that the Sudanese pound has continued to depreciate, with its exchange rate against the US dollar falling by 88% year-on-year.
