On May 20th local time, the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States issued a temporary order requiring a reduction in the arrival and departure rate of flights at Newark Airport in New Jersey. The restriction went into effect immediately on that day. It was reported that Newark Airport had experienced a series of equipment malfunctions, runway construction, and staffing issues, leading to traffic chaos. The FAA stated before meeting with airlines to discuss flight reductions that the airport was clearly unable to handle the current level of scheduled flight operations. (CCTV News)
