According to a report by Xinhua News Agency on May 15th, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated on the same day that the Balkan country of Albania may join the European Union before 2030. Costa said at a joint press conference in Tirana with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, "If Albania continues to develop at the same pace, it is entirely possible for it to join the European Union before 2030.
