The British government recently announced a number of new policies to address immigration issues. The UK government plans to establish so-called "returnee centers" overseas, as a transit point for failed asylum seekers in the UK awaiting deportation. Previously, the UK government also reduced immigration numbers by extending the minimum residency requirement for permanent residency, raising visa requirements, and closing some work visa channels. These measures have sparked widespread controversy.
