Recently, the highly-anticipated mandatory national standard "Technical requirements and test methods for automatic emergency braking systems for light vehicles" has been drafted and entered the public consultation stage. This standard will replace the current national standard GB/T 39901-2021, and the deadline for public comments is June 30, 2025. Compared to the current standard, this new standard has changed from being recommended to mandatory, and the scope of application has been expanded. The standard now requires that "M1 and N1 class vehicles should be equipped with automatic emergency braking systems." Additionally, the standard has added assessments of the recognition capabilities for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and pedal two-wheelers, as well as new simulation testing items. This means that in the future, all passenger vehicles must be equipped with automatic emergency braking systems. AEBS, also known as active braking or automatic emergency braking systems, can effectively reduce rear-end collisions and accidents caused by driver distraction or fatigue. In 2023, differences in understanding AEBS even sparked a heated debate between Huawei and Xiaopeng Motors.
