Gansu: Before June this year, county-level party committees and governments formulated advocacy standards for rural dowries.

According to the report of Gansu Daily on May 12, recently, the General Office of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and the General Office of the Provincial Government issued the "Comprehensive Governance Plan for Promoting the Issue of High Bride Price in Rural Areas of Gansu Province", requiring all localities and departments to earnestly implement it in accordance with the actual situation. The plan proposes to adhere to the socialist core values as the guidance, extensively carry out the theme propaganda of "resisting high bride price and advocating civilized marriage customs" in rural areas, deeply penetrate the countryside, face the masses, vigorously promote relevant legal provisions, comprehensive governance policy requirements, and the harm of high bride price, to achieve full coverage of theme propaganda in administrative villages within the year and carry out it on a regular basis, guiding the masses to establish correct views on marriage, reproduction, and family. Taking the county as the basic governance unit, by June 2025, the county party committee and government will formulate endorsement standards for rural brides based on the average disposable income of rural residents in the local area, combined with local customs and habits, and make timely adjustments on the basis of acceptance by the masses, gradually lowering the endorsement standards, encouraging "zero bride price" and "low bride price". Fully implement the action of revising and updating village rules and agreements, focusing on making specific regulations on the amount of bride price, wedding banquet standards, gifts, cigarettes and alcohol, etc., forming guiding, new, and effective normative standards. Promote a new trend of wedding etiquette, organize collective weddings and public welfare wedding activities at the county level, hold modern weddings in a more civilized and thrifty manner, and guide the masses to practice thrift.
