Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on May 9th that Google has agreed to pay $1.375 billion to reach a preliminary settlement with Texas on allegations of violating user data privacy. In 2022, Paxton filed a lawsuit against Google for illegally tracking and collecting user privacy data related to geolocation, incognito mode, and biometric identification. A Google spokesperson responded to this by stating that the settlement agreement has resolved a series of "old claims," some of which involve changes in the company's product policies. "We are pleased to put these issues behind us and will continue to establish strong privacy controls in our services."
