Texas and Google reach nearly $1.4 billion settlement on data privacy infringement charges.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on May 9 that Google has agreed to pay $1.375 billion to settle allegations of infringing on user data privacy with the state of Texas. In 2022, Paxton filed a lawsuit against Google for illegally tracking and collecting user privacy data related to geographic location, incognito mode, and biometric identification. A Google spokesperson responded by stating that the settlement agreement resolves a series of "old claims," some of which involve product policies that the company has since changed. "We are pleased to put these issues behind us and will continue to build strong privacy controls in our services."
