On the 7th local time, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, was elected as the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party. According to the Georgian news website, during the party's ninth congress held on that day, Kobakhidze was unanimously elected as the party chairman. This is Kobakhidze's second term as chairman of the Georgian Dream party. Kobakhidze has been serving as party chairman since 2021 until he was nominated as Prime Minister in February of last year. Meanwhile, Giorgi Gakharia, who announced his resignation as Prime Minister on January 29 last year, has been appointed as the new party chairman. On April 25 this year, Gakharia announced his resignation as party chairman and exit from politics.
